Biwa

Biwa is a type of musical instrument which has strings or a Japanese lute. Originally, Biwa came from Chinese lute called Pipa. The shape of Biwa looks like a pear with short neck. The body is made of wood and has three to five silk strings attached vertically from the body to the neck. Biwa is played in Gagaku (Japanese classical music preformed at the court). The melody for Biwa is not tempered tuning.
